Summer Exchange - New York

as promised, here's one of the many entries to come on my summer exchange. some of you may have already read this on my previous blog, pardon me for wanting to record everything in one place.

overview of the itinerary: new york  florida  toronto  niagara falls  new york  toronto  montreal → new york. our summer exchange is actually at University of Toronto in Canada. However, before we start the semester, we went for a pre-trip! from the overview above you would have figured that we went for many trips in between the semester as well!

it was 4th May when we departed at terminal 3. family was there to send me off for my two months trip!

and so were my beloved friends! :)

after 8 hours of flight to doha, 8 hours of transit in doha and 12 hours of flight to new york, we were so beat and can't wait to reach our hotel! and let's not forget about the jet lag. we had traveled 12 hours back in time.

hotels in new york is not only expensive but small. poor students like us can't afford to live in luxury. no complains about this hotel though, just that with four people's huge luggage in the small room, there wasn't much space to move around. marrakech's bell boys are really strong and muscular. they can easily lift up the 20 over kilograms luggage and carry them up the stairs over their shoulders! though i must say i nearly killed them or at least have their back sprained the second time i came back.

it was already evening when we settled in, so the rest of the day was spent exploring the surroundings and hunting for dinner. the weather's cold and the wind's strong. no joke.

we saw our first ice-cream truck!

we decided to start our trip by watching a musical at times square the next day. the good thing about our hotel is that it's just a few meters away from the subway.

HELLO NEW YORK CITY!

and the police patrol the roads on horses, how cool is that!

we headed over to TKTS to get cheap, approximately half-priced, broadway musical tickets. we were all crazy about watching phantom of the opera but it wasn't showing that day. and so we decided on chicago!

because the musical only starts at night, we went over to madame tussauds to spend the rest of our day. so i'll let the pictures do the talking here.

and there's einstein again!

reporting news tonight: Rachel Chua

hello britney, it's a little difficult to do this pose don't you think?

we want to thank our family, friends and fans for supporting us all these years... without you guys we won't be standing here... this trophy belongs to all of you! thank you! thank you!

roaming the streets before the musical starts.

there were elmos, cookie monsters, deformed hello kitties and many other characters on the streets. being new and excited in new york, we approached them for photo taking, only to know that they're looking for people to donate money.

all of them swear by shake shack's burger. the place is always full and the queue is always freaking long. i guess we were lucky that day since the queue was short the second time we passed by.

free coffee given out on the streets! it saved all of us from falling asleep during the musical due to jet lag. fighting the sleep and trying to enjoy the musical to make our money worth was really torturous. nonetheless, i think most of us managed to watch almost the whole musical.

love the plot of chicago and how they made it so funny. kind of shows how far women will go to achieve fame.

the next two days in new york was spent SHOPPING at factory outlets. girls being girls, we were all too busy shopping to take pictures. not to mention that our hands were full lugging bags and bags of loots!

grabbed our breakfast from starbucks just right beside our hotel and off we went, to jersey gardens, our first outlet. that's how we look before we enter the outlet with no shopping bags, and after we did our shopping! spot the duffel bag!

second outlet the next day: Woodbury Common Premium Outlet. i spent a bomb that day. coach, fossil, adidas, calvin klein. i want to go back there again!!!

the night was spent squeezing our loots into our luggage and worrying about the weight limit. and then we left new york and departed for orlando! HARRY POTTER, HERE WE COME!!!

do check back for the next entry on florida, till then!
